¡ Steamin' Billy Brewing Co.LTD

Our Story.

The Steamin' Billy brand began in 1998 when local Leicester landlord Barry Lount asked one of his beer suppliers, Bill Allingham from Leatherbritches Brewery, if he could produce a house beer for the Cow & Plough in Oadby. The beer was so named after Barry's dog Billy who used to return from an hour or two chasing rabbits over the Leicestershire countryside "steamin'" as the locals would say’ with steam rising from his back while he panted and enjoyed half a bowl of beer.

Our History.

Brewer Billy Allingham (pictured) and licensee Barry Lount were the founding fathers of The Steamin’ Billy Brewing Company. Their first outlets were The Vaults in Wellington Street, which became Leicester’s premier real ale house, followed by a 16th century Inn, The Robert Catesby, in Norfolk. After some reorganisation in 2000 the two directors have subsequently gone on to own eleven pubs in and around Leicestershire, one in Rutland and two in Derbyshire.

Our Family.

Steamin’ Billy prides itself on using locally sourced fresh produce from our family of Leicestershire farmers. We have great relationships with local farms - our spring lambs are from Timothy Stubbs Cranoe and our beef from Julian White. From October until the end of January, we use Game from the Blaston shoot in the stunning Welland Valley.

Our Produce.

Steamin’ Billy always source quality local ingredients which reflect our seasonal menus, offering quality and choice. We pride ourself on offering sustainable food, we only use free range eggs and always buy British meat, keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum and our flavours as fresh as a daisy.

DOGS, KIDS & MUDDY BOOTS.

All are welcome; we’re completely family friendly. We have eleven pubs, but we don’t like to think of ourselves as a chain - each venue has its own individual flavour. We think that we’ve got the ingredients right to make your experience a great one : great food, great drinks, great staff and great surroundings.
